Learning to Self Love.. My journey of Getting Over Self Esteem Issues Through Fitness

What's up guys? hows it goin?

Recently, I have been thinking a lot about body image and self esteem, especially when it came to thoughts about my body. I am hoping that with my story it can help you recognize your thoughts about your body and to motivate yourself to take a journey towards self acceptance.

Let me start off with a disclaimer that I am not perfect and I am always working to get over these issues on a daily basis.

About myself and my Journey

Currently, I work at a gym, I train clients, and I exercise over 10 hours a week at the gym and cheerleading.

I call this my journey because I am still learning to accept my body for what it is. Like some people I have good days where I am proud of myself and my body. However, some days I step backwards and hate what I see.
As a person who is in the weightlifting world, I am constantly faced with girls who have amazing physiques. At first I when I first started working out on a regular basis. I was wondering why couldn't my body be like that? I would look amazing! Why couldn't I have been born as a skinny girl? It would be so much easier for me to have an amazing body and my muscles would show a lot better than it being covered in fat!
With that in my mind, it turned my goal into only wanting to have a body like Nikki Blackketter so I could look good. These reasons were not for me or my health it was just so I could look beautiful. At first I denied it but looking back on it, it truly was my ultimate goal. Months began to pass and I was always frustrated with myself. I was not loosing fat fast, my stomach wasn't slim and I most defiantly was not looking like the girls on instagram. It began to stress me out wondering when the hell I was going to look like them and this began to really effect my motivation to workout. I was wondering what the heck I was doing wrong. I was seeing people lose weight really fast and look amazing. Before I too was able to lose about 20 lbs in less than a year. But this time around my body weight wasn't moving. I hated myself so much at this point that all I wanted was to be skinny. I felt that if I was training people I hated that I weighed so much that it was embarrassing to train someone because I felt that they would not want to take advise from a FAT girl. Also, I am a cheerleader and at competitions we need to wear crop top uniforms which I hated because I didn't want a whole audience to see my stomach pudge and and my tummy rolls.
The whole time I was wondering what the hell was wrong with me? why couldn't I lose weight!!!!!
Many excuses always ran through my head.. was it my thyroid?, was it because I went off birth control?, was it because I didn't eat a 100% clean diet?, was it because I wasn't doing enough cardio?, was I doing the wrong exercises?, was it due to being stressed?!?!?! as you can see many excuses constantly ran through my mind.
Now before you say  'uh hold up Nicole if you weight lift you gain weight.' I know that but my issue was that I was not seeing results. And if you didn't know that well its true muscle weighs more than fat. I  am currently and got up to the weight of 185. That is seen as an unhealthy weight had me worried, stressed and made me hate myself. I figured that I would gain weight with lifting heavy weights but I thought that eventually I would start to lose weight faster because my fat was turning into muscle and I would look skinny.  HA yeah right... I like to live in a fantasy land.

My turning point

It took my a while but I began to realize that this mind set was getting me no where. I had many thoughts of giving up because it wouldn't even make a difference if I worked out or not. BUT I liked working out, I liked how it made me feel.
One day I was working out at the gym and saw a picture of me form months before and saw my legs and said my legs don't look like that anymore. So I took my first progress picture and it was literally of my knees.

Believe it or not but I weighed a lot less in the photo on the left! but I had made progress. From there I began to take different progression photos.
I began to take pictures of myself and notice small progression. I noticed that my ass was pretty much flat before and now there is a little round bump. I also noticed lines began appearing in my arms when I flexed, and I was able to lift heavier. This slowly began to boost my self confidence and quiet that nagging voice inside. However, that voice would come up and remind me that I was not a skinny girl that I wanted to be.
In addition, I didn't realize at first but reflecting back on the conversation I was being put down by family, friends and society. Which made me have negative thoughts about myself because I was never good enough. Some comments may had not been intentional to body shame me but it was things like 'if you do this exercise program I will be able to slim you down just in time for bikini season.' or 'I know someone who can help you with looking better.' Comments like that are usually supposed to motivate you. However when you think about it it means that your body is not right and it needs to be fixed.
However, as I slowly began to gain confidence and hear stories of peoples insecurities and imperfections and how they shut that noise out. It began to make me feel better about myself and that I was not some hideous beast among these perfect individuals. I began to realize that no one is perfect and that everyone has their own flaws and that they have amazing qualities about themselves in their own ways.

Recently, I began to feel better about myself and I took a picture of myself in a crop top.

It maybe showed an inch or two of my stomach nothing revealing at all.. However,  It took me weeks to upload it. Why ? I was scared that people were going to judge me because my stomach was not a slim enough. It took me so long to upload it because everyday I had an internal debate with myself. It took me so long to quiet that negative voice inside my head. Finally, I look the leap and uploaded the photo. I really liked that photo I looked good and was proud of myself! but I was so scared. Once I uploaded it I got many amazing and loving comments that made me feel more confident.
I believe that on a regular basis people should be giving and receiving more compliments it makes everyone glow with happiness. However, this isn't my most like photo or anything but it doesn't effect me. It doesn't make me wonder if people thought I was fat. I just don't care anymore!!!! I don't care what people think about me, and I don't care what people say about me. Ya okay I have flaws so what? so does everyone else! At this point I had realized how much of a step forward I have taken in my journey of self confidence.
I really began to start looking at myself as a person and that I am not perfect! No one is! This journey is a slow journey but I am making progress and I am happy for that. I still working out hard because I always want to reach new PR's but I am not doing it anymore to look skinny I am doing it to be healthy and to live a healthy lifestyle.

This is my body and I will love it.
I know that I will not perfect in everyones eyes but that is ok! it is impossible to please everyone and I have learned to accept that.

I still am on my journey to a healthier lifestyle and I am proud of the progression I have made with my mindset and body and I will continue to be proud of who I am.

This is my Journey of self love.

I believe everyone needs to make their discovery of self love, you will become happier with yourself.

Anyone can find their self confidence. Mine was found in exercise yours could be in anything you feel passionate about!

Lots of love

Back With Tips and Tricks for makeup, beauty and fashion!

Hi everyone!
I am back... dun.. back again(like the Eminem song?)
ANYWAYS!
I really wanted to start doing something special with my blog posts. I wanted to keep my youtube channel connected with my blog, but I also thought that it would be great to post different tips and tricks for makeup, fashion, and overall beauty.

So first off I think that we should start with the basics and I found these tips online recently that helps a lot with foundation.

There is always a time that we will buy foundation that does not match our skin tone!

Well if you look at the picture below it says to match your foundation to your neck colour and not to your cheek! Why?
Well you want your face to match the rest of your body right?! well this is particularly helpful because your face tends to have different skin tons where as your neck matches the rest of your body. Thereby, matching your neck skin colour to a foundation it will show what colour of foundation best suits your body skin tone rather than just your face. This will defiantly result in not having a different coloured face from the rest of your body.

Another helpful tip that I found quite intriguing was to use down ward strokes rather and upward when applying your liquid foundation. There is not much of a theory behind this tip but it just makes your face look better. *trust me I have tried this* Your foundation blends better using downward strokes on your face. In my theory I believe it is due to the fact that it blends much better into the creases in our face rather than upward which does the opposite.
Hey! if you don't believe me then try it at home and experiment see the difference it makes on your face and you decide!

Here are two helpful makeup tips that you can now use in your everyday life to make it that much better ;)
I hope you enjoyed thank you so much for reading this post and there will be much more to come!!

What I ate Wednesday!!

Alright let's cut to the chase!
Its Wednesday and its time to show some meals I ate throughout the week!
So for my breakfast I started out with a wonderful pastry from a local Bakery which was delicious! It was a cossiant kind of pastry with apricots on the side and I feel like I could eat a million of them!
* does anyone find this looks like a birds face?*

For a snack all I had was fresh fruit, I had some yummy cut up watermelon with some cherries!

For lunch I had some left overs from David and I's date night. It was a linguini pasta with pesto and it had yummy cherry tomatos with spinach!

For Supper we had some really awesome fish fillets BUT they were meatless! They are made by the company call gardian and it is really good worth trying!! So with our fish David and I had couscous salad with peppers broccoli and carrots! We also had a cold shell pasta salad with peppers in it as well!

AND! last but not least! For dessert we had a milfeuille
which in english I suppose its all a thousand papers. David and I got it from the bakery where we had our breakfast from and these are absolutely delicious! I kind of went away from the Vegan side because there was cream in it, but I was good while eating but after I felt really sick which I usually feel like after having any dairy products! but I guess I will learn eventually right?? And if your not vegan you should definitely try this then! Also, David and I had tea with it I had a regular tea with Almond Milk and David had a fruit passion tea!

Makeup Monday| Foundation Routine

I guess I am already falling behind on my blog post -.-!
I did not realize that I totally did not put up my fashion friday video! duh im kinda of an idiot I suppose!
but if you want to check out the lookbook of a summer out fit of the day just head over to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lT1Wl0zh0DQ and check out the video!! :)
And I am losing my schedule of everything because I thought Yesterday was Monday but instead it was actually Tuesday, which I suppose you already know!, so I did not have a chance to write a blog post and did not get the video up until super late!
but I am doing it now so it counts right?!
Anyways today there will be two blog posts I suppose for my what I ate Wednesday and my Makeup Monday!

ALRIGHT! enough chit chat time to get started on Makeup Monday!
For this Monday I did my Foundation Routine, which I have recently switch from less of a drug store routine to more of a higher end. I decided to switch it up because I am having a really hard time trying to find a drugstore foundation that I truly am obsessed with!
So, I went to Sephora a couple of weeks ago and asked the employee there to help match me with a foundation. She was extremely helpful and I really enjoyed her tips that she gave me. Unfortunately, I did not get her name but if you live in the Burlington Vermont area and go to the University Mall that is where I get the best service at Sephora!

So, the main questions she asked me was about my skin and if there were any problems that would help better match me with a foundation. However, it was fairly easy to match a makeup foundation to my face because I have close to normal skin. However, the best thing about Sephora they make sure to ask these questions so they can best match you to a foundation. So, I 100% recommend if you need to find a foundation check out Sephora because you get the help you need to match your skin tone well and one that suits you best!
After talking to the employee for a bit she matched me with Urban Decay's Naked Basics Foundation in 3.0 which I could not believe how well it matched my skin tone! It is an amazing foundation because you can put on a basic coat and it fits well, buttt you can also build on the foundation if needed.

However, before she matched my colour I asked her for a really good primer because I usually use the Porfessional by Benefit and never really got the long lasting results that I had hoped for. So, she knew that I had close to normal skin so she matched me with the Smashbox Photo ready Primer!

Also what is amazing out Smashbox is that this company also offers several different Primers to suit your facial needs!!
ref ( http://www.letmeletyouknow.com/makeup/its-a-crime-not-to-prime-what-you-need-to-know-about-face-primers/ )

Also this primer is really awesome because a little goes a longgg way. The amount that I use is usually a dime to a nickels worth. It is also long lasting and works really well!!

Next, after adding the primer and Foundation I asked for a setting powder. So, she suggested that I use the Tarte setting powder. I is really great long lasting and I really really enjoy it.

Overall, I really appreciated the employee at Sephora for all her wonderful help and I am extremely happy with her help for opening up new products to me.

You can check out the foundation routine video here! or on my youtube page!

WHAT I ATE WEDNESDAY!

Hello Everyone!!!
So today is Wednesday! which means what I ate Wednesday!!!
yummy food time!!!
I love love food! who doesn't??
So I always pre film my videos so this was done on a Saturday when I work my weekend Job at
Jones New York.
MY breakfast: Two pieces of Toast with organic peanut butter, 1 Banana, and 1 Kiwi.
For lunch I did not have one because I had a very late breakfast and no time to have lunch because of work. So before work I had some yummy Pistachios!
After Work David made supper for me! Im very lucky ;)
David found a recipe online that was vegan which he wanted to try to he made these re-fried bean kinda of wraps there is really no name for it. But it is a wrap with obviously re-fried beans with garlic, onion, peppers, and corn added into it and cooked. And it is just like a taco you add all the yummy stuff too!! I just added lettus to mine. David had cheese with his and there was no salsa in the house so we were not able to add it to our wraps! but we lived without it!
Finally, for a little sweetness David went and got us some Slush Puppies!!
It was so sweet and nice to have since I have not had one in YEARS!!!!!

MAKEUP MONDAY!| New Makeup Routine?!?!

Hello everyone! and I am back on my blog!
Unfortunately, I became so busy with my summer course and work that I barely had time for anything!! :(
but now summer is here I have time for everything;) I wish!
On my youtube Page I do Makeup Monday, What I ate Wednesday, and Fashion Friday!
This week I will be starting off with my Makeup Monday!!!

For this Makeup Monday I had a special guest help me!
In the video David, my boyfriend, was my arms throughout the video as he did my makeup from behind!
Let me tell you it was very difficult!
David was very creative at helping me with my makeup and it turned out just lovely -.-

Aaannnndddd This was the result!
Thank you David for ruining my face! :)
After doing this it was so hard to get the makeup off my face!!
However, this is a really fun video to do! David and I could not stop laughing! and it is quite a challenge!
***A tip before you do this make sure that you use your cheap drugstore makeup and NOT! your high end makeup because it will probably get ruined. David obviously does not use makeup and the way he handles the makeup it was easily ruined.

Overall, this was a fun video to do with David and I really enjoyed it!
You can check out the entire video on my person youtube page

Should More Stores Have Couches?!

Hi!
So today's post is kind of random! But  I guess that could be acceptable on my blog.
Now at the retail store that I currently work at we have a couch area for the men annnddd I guess you could say they look like that most of the time;) BUT that is not really the reason for this post. Recently, the head office of the store I work at has decided to change our entire store because it doesn't look like the rest of their stores and they want to modernize it. However, there is more of other problems that we are dealing with but this one I thought I would share. So going back to the photo like our store we have a sitting area, pretty much for the men, that are suck like this poor fellow waiting for their significant other. Now, the head office wants to get rid of the seating area in our store! And personally I think it's kind of stupid because the men love that area. But even though they want to get rid of the seating area, I thought why the hell wouldn't more stores adopt this. Most of retail stores are focus around female clientele. And what girl won't drag her boyfriend along at some point! And if there are stores similar to mine where there is only female clothing them why wouldn't a store have this!? I mean even I want this when my boyfriend is shopping in some only male stores.
So it has really peaked my curiosity to why more stores have not yet adopted this into their stores!?
Is it because it takes up too much space?
I'm my opiono. I think it's a god blessing for people to have the opportunity to actually have the choice to sit. Obviously no clients going to just come into the store to sit, it just gives the poor soul your dragging around a little break!
So for all the people (mostly men) who love the idea of this in stores, why haven't we brought this into more stores!
Hey! If you work in a store why not suggest this? It's a pp
Retry damn good idea! Maybe get you that promotion ;) but honestly if you think about it maybe then men won't make a fuss when you go into that store cause then they can sit down while you spend hours trying on tons of clothes;)
It's something to ponder about!

Bullying, it needs to stop

 Bullying, It needs to stop

Now I know that Bullying it's really what I intent to portray on my Blog. However, This is a serious problem and everyone (I hope) knows this.
I decided to write about this on my blog because it is a topic in one of my university online classes.
The time bullying is critical during adolescence.
We had a couple of viewing/listening that we had to listen/watch. While doing this I sat alone in my room and felt horribly helpless and uncomfortable to how so many people are victimized. During the time of watching this I was reflecting on my adolescence was I a bully, a victim, or a bystander? I feel like I was all three. Thinking about my adolescence I feel like I was a bully, I might have no been the person excluding others, starting rumors, and being physical, but others may categorize me as a bystander but in my mind I believe that it is the exact same thing as being a bully. I remember in early adolescence I would follow the 'main girl', I so badly wanted to fit in with the popular girl in school! that was something I thought would make me feel better about my self, I wanted to be like the popular girls. I would do anything I would follow that 'main girl' do what ever she wanted just to fit in. Thinking back on this I feel like I am the biggest idiot on earth! but in adolescence fitting in with your peers is everything.
As I entered high school I wanted the same thing. I wanted to fit in with the new popular girls. So I did what I had to do to fit in. As I thought I was lucky to fit in with them because we shared the passion of dance. There were Four of us, we were a strong clique we shared so much we were never focused on hurting others but there were times that we did bully others. It may not had been repeated bullying but we could be mean if we wanted to. I mean these girls came from good homes they were good people on the inside.
Many years we stayed great friends strong friends but over the years we had situations where we had issues. One girl got her first boyfriend and began to ignore us because she was really into her boyfriend but as soon as they broke up everything went back to normal. This is one of several examples. In my final year of high school, our group of four had grown we had befriended two other girls. One girl had a boyfriend who was a year older and he had graduated and she was alone (we will call her A) and so we befriended her and the other girl had a falling out with one of her friends so we befriended her. *(now this girl is important we will call her S)
Now the final year of high school we were all excited to get out of highschool and 'be free'. Now Once the two girls had grown our group to 6 it was all fun and games at first. But then I noticed my friends began to become distant and strange. They would never meet up in our usual places began to make plans with out me and I was confused to what was going on most of the time it was me and A the rest of the girls had stuck around with S. After a while it became a relationship where we would hang out sometimes but it would be a distant awkward time. After a white I noted that I was being invited to parties but A wasn't. I was even told to not tell A about the party and of course I didn't because I wanted my friends. All this time S became 'the leader' and my three friend were following her every move because S was popular with everyone so my friends were attracted to that. S i guess didn't mind me but she hated A, and who knows why, to this day I still don't even know why. But I did stick by my friends side. It became to the point where the end of the year had come and my befriends throughout high school were aliens to me.
I will always remember my last day of school there was happiness through all the students that it was the last day of high school!
but my biggest regret was not saying goodbye to my three best friends the ones that were there for me through everything. The last day of school I was sad, not happy, I watched as my best friends walk right pass me and ignore me and shared their happiness with others. I was hurt so I just left and went home. I remember going home and just crying, it was upsetting knowing the people that I shared so much with, were different they were cold and just not the warm people I knew.
After graduation I decided that 'my friends' were not longer there for me so I ended any contact, I even unfriended them on facebook, that was a big deal and so did A. My best friend was A and she still is to this day. But after a while I got so fed up with how S treated her and how my so called friends did to. I could have gone along and ignored A too but I didn't because A is not a bad person.
Now, It has been over three years since I have graduated, I managed to reconcile my friendship with one of my old friends, thanks to my older sister and my friends big brother. But the others I barley had contact with. Eventually my old friends had sent a friend request on facebook and A and I decided to friend them again and my old friends messaged on facebook awkwardly asking how things were but it never was the same. I don't know if i can ever feel the same way again, how do I know they wont hurt me, have they changed?
I have no regret about my decisions because I knew they were the right ones. But I still have a part of me that misses my friends that I shared everything with. I wish that we could still be the best of friends that we were in high school I honestly miss them. There will always be in my mind the "what if" what if i did somethign different, what if i talked to them about what was happening. What if.

Now this may not be a great example of extreme bullying but it is a form of bullying. I have seen extreme bullying with my younger brother. But bullying is bullying and it sucks, I may not have been the victim but I know how it feels and it sucks! Listening to the different examples from my class makes me reflect on these times. Why? why do these people bully? why why why!
It is just completely unfair! Bullying from girls may not be obvious but girls know how to hurt you emotionally (like S) and girls are emotional people. So it is hard for it to be noticed! and now it is being seen in males too.
Why does it happen? and why doesn't it stop?
Even though you may think that nothing is happening, something is happening.
Adolescence need to realize that when bullying is happening, whether someone is being victimized or if your a bystander, it needs to be stopped. Everyone says get an adult get help. Its true as an adolescence you think that the adults could never help you. BUT THEY CAN!
Bullying needs more awareness bullying needs to be stopped. Too many kids have taken their lives because of bullying and it needs to stop!
IT NEEDS TO STOP!

Thank you for reading my story below will be linked videos, recordings, and programs that talk about bullying. I suggest checking them out, it may inspire you to do something about this, It has inspired me to  make sure that it is a clear message to my students, I teach cheerleading to, that there is ZERO tolerance to bullying and that they need to pass on that message. And you should do the same. Maybe you don't have a group of people to inspire but you can just simply talk to others and explain that bullying has zero tolerance and it can be stopped, just pass on the message.
